Research Trend Analysis of Art Psychotherapy for Depression

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to provide effective alternative for future art psychotherapy related depression by analyzing research trends of art psychotherapy in Korea. This research analyze 114 of journals and dissertations during the last 15 years. The results are following; first, the number of research of depression and art psychotherapy was increased since 2008, starting in 2001. Second, there is a characteristic that research with infant was non and adults were the most. Also, there were more research of subjects who showed depressive symptom than who were diagnosed as depressive disorder. Third, there were more clinical than theoretical research and quantitative research was preferred based on characteristics. Forth, single group case study were most common with 21 or more subjects. Individual utilized more than 21 sessions and group utilized 11-15 sessions once a week most commonly. For research period, 4-5 months for individual and 2-3 months for group were the most, and objective measurement instruments were most popular. In conclusion, art psychotherapy is effective for alleviating depression from children to senior except infant and useful in clinical setting.
